Fantastico easy script installer

These days, almost all the notable web hosting providers offer Fantastico easy script installer with their web hosting packages. If they are not offering Fantastico Deluxe, they are offering some other free script installer. With Fantastico, you can install all those blog scripts, famous CMS scripts, Classified scripts, Customer Relationship scripts, Polls and Surveys, Image Galleries, Wiki’s, Site Builders and many more. Some of the popular blog scripts and boards you can install with a few clicks with the help of Fantastico are WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, PhpBB, SMF, Mambo, Nucleus and many more.

But the only downsides with using Fantastico to install your favorite scripts are Once a script provider updats its script it doesn’t get updated in Fantastico immediately. I mean, the people at Fantastico take a couple of weeks to update the script to its new version. If that script updation involves any major security fixes, then you will need to update the script manually to prevent your site getting hacked. And once you update the version of a script manually, from then on you can’t use Fantastico to update that particular script. It means Fantastico is only good until you get to manually update any script on your hosting account. But if there is no need to update a script as soon as the original maker of the software updates it and you can wait until Fantastico updates the script in their panel, you can’t find a better easy script installer than Fantastico.

Prevx CSI free malware detection scanner

Prevx CSI is another free malware detection scanner available on the net. It is from the makers of Prevx 2.0 advanced malware protection. Prevx CSI is said to be the rapid and advanced malware detection utility available on the internet. With this free scanner you can detect trojans, rootkits, viruses, spyware, information stealers, and all other forms of PC threats. You can even remove them if you buy the license from the makers of the software which is called Prevx CSI+cleaner. This piece software works with all the major antivirus programs and other security suites without conflicting them.

Typically Prevx CSI completes the scanning process in about 1 to 3 minutes, depending on the system configuration op your PC. It is able to find advanced spyware on your computer which most of your normal Antivirus programs may fail to pick up, thanks to the always up to date and world’s largest threat database. For the current versions (3.0 and above), you need to have internet connection enabled since it uses the real time threat database by connecting to the databases of their official servers. I have been using it and I must say it is doing a good job. Scanning your PC is free but you will have to purchase the license to remove the threats using this program.

Download Old Versions of most of the software

Sometimes, when you have updated any software to its latest version, you would soon find out how good the old version is compared to this newer one. Then you may want to uninstall it and install the old version if you have the installation package of it. What if you don’t have it? Then you can go to the following two websites and can download the old versions. These two sites list almost all the versions of a software from its beginning. These days, many other software download websites are giving old software versions for download.

These sites are safe to download the old versions of any software. Remember, there are also a lot of websites which are offering old version downloads but most of them are sites which promote malware, adware, viruses, trojan horses, worms kind of malicious code. And one more thing, when you download some software from a website always make sure you are downloading it from a trusted website. Or you would only harm your computer by downloading stuff from every website which offers software downloads.

Which Antivirus software is the best?

Antivirus software is an essential one in the list of the installed programs of your computer if you use your machine to browse the internet. Even if your computer is not connected to the web, you still need to use a good antivirus program on your PC to make sure you won’t get it infected with any of those malware programs that may still get into your system via CDs, DVDs and portable data storage gadgets like pendrives. There are many ways that your computer may get infected so you must have an effective antivirus software. If you are browsing the web you may get infected by just visiting a website, even if you don’t download anything you might still get infected by visiting a website owing to those iframe malware. And if you only use your PC for offline purposes, you might still get infected by just browsing through the files of any infected cds, dvds and pen drives. So, Here what I want to tell you is Antivirus software is a vital one for your computer no matter if you only use it for offline purposes. Antivirus software can prevent the malware and can clean them or can delete it completely if necessary.

There are a couple of dozens of famous brand antivirus softwares available out there, but which among them is the best bet for your computer? Also you should note one thing here, You should only use one antivirus software on your computer at a time. You may (need to find out if they co-exist) use other security software like antispyware along with your existing antivirus but it is advisable to use only one antivirus at one time for having more than one antivirus on your system leads to conflict among them and would affect your PC’s performance and might even break it. There are many famous antivirus brands out there, some of them are Eset Nod32, Kaspersky, BitDefender, Symantec Norton antivirus, Trend Micro, AVG, Avira, Avast, Panda, Microsoft, F-Secure, Comodo Antivirus, Sophos, PC Tools antivirus, QuickHeal, ClamAv and some more. But which, among them, is the best antivirus? One thing you have to keep in mind is “the famous and most widely used may not necessarily be the best”. From what I know many people around the world use Symantec Norton to protect their systems and Norton is the most widely used antivirus software in the world, But in my opinion it is not the best out there.

Almost all the antivirus programs use advertising to get their products into consumers. So, if a company uses a lot more advertising for its products than other companies, the consumers may think it’s the best and most famous antivirus software out there because that’s what they see everywhere and they may convince themselves and buy the products. In this world, Most of the time what matters is hype and promoting yourself. So, for your hunt for the best antivirus program take out the “The most famous and widely used one” thing. The other things that you have to consider are VB awards for antivirus programs and awards by some of those famous online review sites and antivirus software download sites. Also, you could join some of those famous web security sites and forums to learn more about antivirus software for effective solution to your web security. Virusbtn.com is a site which conducts tests to find out how good an antivirus program is. You should visit their site to learn more about your favorite antivirus and how they fared in the tests conducted by them. The link (virusbtn.com/vb100/archive/results?display=summary) is where you find out the results of the tests featuring many famous antivirus programs. You could also rely on the Editor Choice awards (like CNET Editor Choice award for best antivirus) of famous sites like CNet (download.com), PCMag, Softpedia etc.

You could also search for the reviews of antivirus programs you want to purchase. Sure some of those reviews are biased but you would get a feel about what you actually need to protect your computers from online threats. Since almost all the antivirus companies offer free trial versions of their paid software (if not free), you could just learn more about the performance of your choice antivirus software by installing them on your PCs. But keep one thing in mind, Install (run) only one antivirus software at a time. Running more than one may cause serious problems to your machines. Along with it you should install one antispyware and a personal firewall of your choice (since windows firewall is said to be very basic and doesn’t monitor outbound traffic). You could install Malwarebytes anti-malware with almost all major antivirus software for anti-spyware protection. You could also install Prevx evolution scanner to add more security to your system. And coming to firewall, You could go for Zonealarm or Comodo or Outpost firewall or any other good personal favorite of yours. And coming back to the original topic of which anti-virus is the best, There is no perfect antivirus out there for new kinds of Malware (virus, adware, trojans, worms etc) is developed every hour by those hackers and spammers.

As far as I am concerned, I have used Eset Nod32 antivirus, Kaspersky antivirus and Bitdefender antivirus on my systems and they all did a good job. All three of them offer complete security suits that come with one antivirus software, one anti-spyware and a personal firewall. So you could also try their security suits to beef up your PC’s security. That said there is no 100% guarantee that your system will be 100% secure with their antivirus products … with any security software for that matter. It’s about using the best antivirus security software available to you. In the past I used to hear that Bitdefender antivirus would pick up some false positives. So be careful about that. False positives are genuine and harmless (system) files or programs that are flagged as malicious programs by some of those antivirus software, So if you choose an antivirus which may flag a good file or program as malware and then you would clean or delete it with the software, you may find yourself in troubles. So, Do your own research and find a good antivirus program to secure your personal and business computers as well as your online privacy.

Password Managers like RoboForm safe to use?

I have been using RoboForm password manager for a couple of years now without any problems. But recently, while I was surfing the Web, I got to read about two cases where the victims said their mail accounts, website logins and cPanel accounts were hacked because of the password manager they were using, they were still doubtful about it though. If your login details are not safe with these password managers then what is the purpose of using them? Paying them to hack your accounts? Unfortunately, in both the cases the software they were using was RoboForm password manager (they were still doubtful though that it was because of RoboForm).

So, I went on a crusade to find any bad information about RoboForm Password manager. I have tried different searches like “RoboForm a spyware”, “RoboForm steals your passwords”, “RoboForm is not safe” etc but didn’t find any bad information about it. All the information I found was in favor of RoboForm like “RoboForm is the safest password managers of all”, “It is the most secure software”. So, I can conclude this post with a statement that “RoboForm is safe to use”, at least for now. I will keep on searching about any information regarding if the password managers are safe or not and let you know about it.

Safe & Secure software downloads

If you are downloading a particular software from Internet, always try to download it from their official website. But it’s not always easy to find their official website for most of the software brand names are different from their parent companies despite the fact search engines (especially Google, but Yahoo and Live(MSN) are not so good as Google) try their best to provide you with the official websites on top of their search results. For example, one of the best anti-virus software out their is Nod32 but its parent company is http://www.eset.com/. The problem here is not many people know that ESET is the parent company of Nod32 anti-virus software.

So, in situations like this, you can download the software from trusted Software Download Websites out there. There are some big and trusted websites which offer free (if the software is free or shareware from its maker) software downloads. The top websites for software downloads are below in order.

Download.com is the biggest and best software downloads website on the Internet. This site is run by famous Cnet.com. It tops of the list of websites that offer free, safe and secure software downloads.

Softpedia.com is another famous website for software downloads. It occupies second place right after download.com.

Filehippo.com is the third best site for safe and secure software downloads. Of all these four sites, I recommend this site. It offers you all the older versions of the software along with its latest version. That is the most convenient website for you if you are looking for some older version of a particular software (because not always the latest software versions are good).

Tucows.com is another best website for safe and secure software downloads. I rank it 4th out of these four websites.

All these websites offer you clean software without any spyware, worms, adware, trojan horse, or virus. But as I said before, always try to download the software from their official makers, the reason for this is, if the software is shareware (full or partial functional trial version for 15 or 30 days) and requires a licence, sometimes, it causes you trouble to get it to work and download updates if you have downloaded the software from un-official software download websites. But with offcial websites, you would never encouter this problem. Follow the above, be safe, and happy browsing with clean system.

Kaspersky or ESET Nod32 or BitDefender: Which antivirus is best?

If you have been using your Personal Computer to browse Internet, perhaps by this time you would have understood how important is installing an anti-virus software on your computer. But which Antivirus software offers your machine best protection? Is it Kaspersky or ESET Nod32 or Bitdefender or Prevx or any other antivirus software?

To be frank, most of the Netizens use not-so-good Anti-virus software programs and are in the illusion that they are using one of the best antivirus programs out there. And some of them even boast that they have been using the program for quite a time and have never had any problem related to virus, spyware, trojan horse, worm, adware, or root kits or anything. The painful fact here is that they recommend those antivirus programs to their friends and people who seek advice. Some of the not-so-great antivirus programs include Norton, AVG antivirus, CA antivius, McAfee, TrendMicro, F-Secure, Quick Heal…….. and many more. Even Avast and Avira Avtivir are not so good in comparison with ESET Nod32 or Kaspersky or Bitdefender.

So out of these three ESET Nod32, Kaspersky and Bitdefender, which one is better? Both Bitdefender and Kaspersky use a lot of system resources, so unless your system is highly configured, you’d better go for ESET Nod32 or ESET Smart Security. All three of these programs might sometimes find false positives. Even though the three are better than the remaining, you still can’t guarantee that by using anyone of these antivirus programs you are totally safe online. There is no such thing as a perfect choice in Antivirus programs. So, test your PC by installing these software programs one by one for a period of time and use whichever you like. Don’t forget this: YOU CAN ONLY INSTALL ONE ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM ON A SYSTEM AT A TIME. INSTALLING MORE THAN ONE ANTIVIRUS WOULD CAUSE SERIOUS PROBLEMS TO YOUR SYSTEM (Most of the Anti-virus programs conflict each other).

Best multimedia player: VLC or JetAudio or KMplayer or GOM or WMP or Media player classic?

What is the free and best media player available out there? There are a lot of multimedia players which are capable of playing a lot of different formats each. Some of them depend on video or audio codecs (actually need them) installed on your PC, whereas some of them don’t require any codecs installed, they have the codecs built-in in themselves. But which is the best media player among them? Which can play more types of video/audio formats than any other player? Which is the free and best media player that requires less attention from You as far as playing a audio/video format is concerned? I mean, which player doesn’t ask you to download certain codec to play the media and which use less system resources and gives you better audio and video experience than any other media player?

VLC Media Player: VLC Media Player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats. This Media Player can play MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, MP3, and OGG, FLV and many more other common Audio/ Video formats. However, It can’t play Real Media format files (.rm, .rmvb ) without the installation of the codecs on your Personal Computer.

JetAudio: JetAudio Basic is a integrated multimedia software made up of a single compact rack. Not only can it play all of the major file formats, it also has features like CD burning, recording and conversion to other major file formats. Some of the major file formats it can play are WAV, MP3, MP3Pro, OGG, WMA, MPEG, AVI, WMV, MIDI, RM, and video and audio CD tracks.

KMPlayer: KM Player is one of the best and free media players which can play almost all the major file formats. The formats KM Player can play include VCD, DVD, AVI, MKV, Ogg, OGM, 3GP, MPEG-1/2/4, WMV, RealMedia, and QuickTime. It also has a feature to play broken, damaged AVI files and compressed audio archieves. With this player you can also capture audio, video and screen shots in many ways.

GOM Player: GOM Player is free media player which can play the following file formats: DAT, MPEG, DivX, XviD, WMV, ASF, AVI, and MOV, FLV1, AC3, OGG, MP4, and H263 etc. Almost all the popular codecs are built in this player. It can also play damaged AVI files and locked or partially downloaded files.

Windows Media Player (WMP): WMP is one of the famous media players out there owing to the fact it comes with a default installation with Microsoft Windows Operating Systems (Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP, Vista). Windows Media Player can play a good number of file formats but not so many as the four player above and the one player discussed bwlow.

Media Player Classic: Media Player Classic is a small size, low memory footprint and feature packed media player. This DirectShow player looks like the old Windows Media Player 6.4 but offers a lot more features. If you have the codecs installed on your system it can play every file format you throw at it. It has a rich set of features which makes your video watching very enjoyable.

Which Password Manager do you use?

Password Manager is a software which is used to store your login details of a website (Username and password), your personal data safe. You can store all of your favorite websites’ login details using Password Managers safely and securely. There are many Password Managers available out there, both free and paid. Almost all of them use strong Algorithms and strong encryption to make sure your passwords and usernames are safe. But which one to choose?

Personally, I use Roboform password manager, a shareware (you can use it for free upto 10 passwords). Roboform is an excellent password manager and form filler. It uses strong encryption to make sure your passwords are safe and secure.

For free there are softwares like KeePass. KeePass is a free/open-source password manager which helps you to manage your passwords in a secure and easy way.

Another free (and premium version) password manager that I hear good things about is Last Pass. It is said to be an excellent password manager and form filler.

Another free one is Comodo i-Vault, an excellent password manager. It has got all the options to store all of your sensitive information.

Another one is Sticky Password manager, a shareware. It is an intelligent form filler and password management program. It remembers and automatically fills in login, password and other fields.

Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer or Opera or Netscape or K-Meleon or Google Chrome or Safari?

Web browsers: There are a lot of web browsers available out there. Of all these there are a few famous web browsers which ensure safe web browsing and have many features to make Internet surfing a lot easier. In the past, there used to be only one famous web browser, the Internet Explorer from Microsoft, a default installation to all of the windows system. But it has changed a lot since then until now, owing to the introduction of many more secure and feature-packed web browsers to surf the Internet. But the sad fact is, still a large percentage of people don’t know about all these safe, secure and customizable browsers which actually make your surfing easier. Internet Explorer, in my opinion, is not so great and secure web browser anymore. Ok, But which browser is the best among all these Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Netscape, K-Meleon, Safari, Google Chrome and many other small-time web browsers?                …………….coming soon
